Assignment | How well I did on this task | What I learnt that will be useful when I make my own music video |
Presentation on music video | When looking for a video, I tried to find one which was interesting with something different about it, so I chose a Radiohead song, and I felt that I went into quite a lot of depth and looked at all the different aspects of the video; the actual concept, the editing, and why it was edited in the certain way it was. | I think the thing I took from this the most, was thinking about an interesting concept for our video to make it stand out, and also started to look at other concept videos. |
Essay | In-depth analysis, and as I went along I thought of more similarities/differences to how each video was edited and why. | How different genres represent themselves, as both videos were narrative videos, yet one was rock and the other soul. |
Star image | In-depth analysis comparing the artist’s change over time Along with how this has affected their success, which I found interesting to research. | That the band/artist’s image is crucial in creating a successful career Yet also, that their image can change as well as the genres of their music, and I learnt how this change can be represented. |
Institutions | We found it hard to find the information we needed, especially the budget for each video, but I felt that we all worked well to find the necessary information. | I learnt that even without a huge budget, a video can still be made successfully and turn out good, like with Friendly Fire’s video ‘Skeleton Boy’ that I compared with a Beyonce video. |
CD cover analysis | I think I worked really well on this task as I thought really hard as to why the different covers are designed in a certain way and what affect this has on their audience and genre. | Like with the essay, I learnt how different genres represent themselves through different aspects such as; colour/fonts/images of the band or artist etc. |
What music means to me | I spent a while picking what song would best represent what music means to me for each of the three stages, and thought I justified each one well. | I learnt about the importance of music to people and what it means to different people, and also the fact that we will need to pick a good song that people can connect and relate to it. |
The Britney Experience | I think I worked well within our group, and we all equally shared the different tasks so we all had a bit of a go at the different skills we will need when making our own music video. | How to edit shots. The difficulty involved in making each shot perfect. |
Song choices | I considered a wide range of song choices, and came up with different ideas for each track I considered what would be easy or difficult to lip-sync, and what would make for the most interesting/innovative video. | What song would be suitable, or the best choice to choose and make a video for. |
Analysing various music videos | We discussed different videos as a group which meant that we could analyse the videos in depth which gave us a better understanding of music videos overall. | The differences in the various types of music videos I can create Also, the most interesting/unique ones are often the ones that are completely do-able. For example, ‘Bad Touch’ by Bloodhound Gang. |
